Beltrami County Summary Report 2017

Overall, the lakes in the county are in great shape.  Most are stable or improving in water quality. There were just 2 lakes found to have declining trends,  Big and Turtle River lakes.  It is not clear; however, what could be causing these trends.  They could be naturally caused.  See the Beltrami County Summary Report pages 17-20 for a prioritization and recommendations for lakes.

Big_04-0049-00
Comments: Declining Secchi trend.  It is difficult to determine what could be causing this trend, but monitoring the inlet, monitoring for internal loading, and evaluating the shoreline development could provide clues.  Or it could be a naturally-caused trend as well.

Black_04-0157-00
Comments: No trends. Protection focus.

Blackduck_04-0069-00
Comments: No trends, but it is possible that internal loading is still occurring from the legacy phosphorus at the bottom of the lake from the City of Blackduck’s wastewater before the 1980s.

Cass_04-0030-00

Grace_29-0071-00
Comments: No trends.  There could be some internal loading of phosphorus from the lake sediments occurring as well, but the lake is not showing a declining trend in water quality, so it could be that internal loading levels are the same as they’ve always been.

Grant_04-0217-00
